Society of Construction Law International Conference - Hong Kong
November 08, 2024
MCMS Director, Jonathan Cope, joined a distinguished panel of guests at the Society of Construction Law Hong Kong International Conference at HK Football Club earlier this month.
The theme for this year’s conference was “Building Resilience: Navigating Adversity in the Construction Industry” and Jonathan, along with Thomas Lee of Rede Chambers, the HKIAC’s Michelle Cheung and James Leabeater KC of 4 Pump Court, discussed various aspects of Hong Kong’s Security of Payment legislation, including some of the proposed adjudication provisions.
The event was also a fantastic opportunity to introduce the international audience to "Adjudicating Construction and Engineering Disputes", which is non-jurisdiction specific. Indeed, it recognises the prevalence of, and increase in, the use of adjudication as a mechanism for dealing with construction and engineering disputes worldwide where legislation is enacted or pending, including, of course, Hong Kong.
