Ciarb Ireland Branch Seminar & Book Signing
November 28, 2024
It was a vibrant and engaging panel discussion last Friday at the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Ciarb) Ireland Branch’s round table breakfast seminar. Hosted in conjunction with the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland, ‘‘Adjudication – Lessons from other jurisdictions and the Irish perspective’’ featured a line-up of adjudication stalwarts, including MCMS’s Jonathan Cope and Matt Molloy.
The panel was complimented by Niav O’Higgins (Construction lawyer and member of the Ministers Panel of adjudicators) and Keith Kelliher (past Chair of the Ciarb Ireland Branch and member of the Ministers Panel of adjudicators), and moderated by Peter O'Malley (Ciarb Ireland Branch immediate Past Chair and member of the Ministers Panel of adjudicators).
Introduced by Dermot Durack (Ciarb Ireland Branch Chair and Associate Director at Quigg Golden solicitors), Jonathan and Matt discussed the catalyst for their recent book, Adjudicating Construction and Engineering Disputes and their intention to provide a practical guide to the process of adjudication (both in the UK and internationally) from the perspective of the adjudicator.
The panel went on to discuss the similarities and differences between adjudication models across different jurisdictions (including UK, Australia, Hong Kong and Canada), and explored where Irish adjudication sits on the broad v narrow spectrum, as well as everyone’s views on what changes could or should be made to the Construction Contracts Act.
The seminar was followed by a book signing by Jonathan and Matt.
A fantastic event from start to end with a wealth of industry knowledge and experience shared amongst a highly engaged and interactive audience.
Thank you to the hosts for inviting MCMS to take part and for the very warm Irish welcome, as always.
